HKJC...

Jockey Christophe Soumillon

On 28 September 2009, Jockey Christophe Soumillon submitted an application for a Club Jockey's Licence in which he advised his period of availability as being from 6 January 2010 until 27 March 2010, both dates inclusive. The Licensing Committee, at their meeting held on 4 November 2009, granted Christophe Soumillon a Club Jockey's licence for the period as advised by Jockey Soumillon. On 10 November 2009, Jockey Soumillon accepted in writing the Club's offer to ride during the stated period.

On 31 December 2009, Management received a request from Jockey Soumillon, via his manager, to delay the commencement of his Club Jockey's contract until 24 January 2010 as he was required to recuperate after having surgery to have a pin removed from the arm he injured in a race fall in September 2009. Jockey Soumillon advised that he would be assessed by his medical practitioner on or about 16 January 2010 when it was anticipated he would be cleared to resume riding.

Management yesterday received further correspondence from Christophe Soumillon, again via his manager, in which he requested for the termination date of his agreement to ride with the Club to be amended from the previously approved date of 27 March 2010 to 28 February 2010. Jockey Soumillon advised the reason for this request as being that he is required by his retaining stable in France to return to that country so as to commence riding duties on 1 March 2010. This request to significantly vary the period of his licence to ride was received one day after the date his Club Jockey's licence was initially approved to take effect. Also contained within Jockey Soumillon's correspondence was advice that he was now able to commence his agreement to ride with the Club on 16 January 2010, despite advice to the contrary some seven days earlier.

Jockey Soumillon has been licensed by the Club as either a Club Jockey or Stable Retained Jockey on six previous occasions. On four of these six occasions, he has submitted an application for the approved term of the agreement to be terminated prior to the previously approved and committed expiry date.

Having considered the manner in which Jockey Soumillon has repeatedly sought to amend the dates of his currently approved licensing period, the fact that he is not able to fulfil a significant portion of the approved licensing period, the late notification of his requests and his recurrent failure to honour the full term of his licensing periods during previous racing seasons in Hong Kong, the Licensing Committee has, by circulation of paper, today agreed to withdraw the Club Jockey's Licence previously granted to Christophe Soumillon for the period 6 January 2010 until 27 March 2010, both dates inclusive.

Chadwick breaks apprentice record to take 70 winners within 13 months

The Club held a graduation ceremony for apprentice jockey Matthew Chadwick at Sha Tin Racecourse today (10 January), after he rode his 70th winner in Hong Kong on board Multiglory in Race 2. Executive Director of Racing William A Nader presented Chadwick with a silver-gilt dish, mini-sash and cap.

Chadwick has reached the 70-winner graduation benchmark in just 12 months and 3 weeks - the fastest in Hong Kong's racing history.

After enrolling in the HKJC's racing trainee programme in 2004 and receiving basic riding training in Hong Kong and Australia, Chadwick, now 19, had his first racing experience while he was indentured to trainer Maryann Thexton on Australia's Gold Coast. Between his first competitive ride there on 17 May 2008 and his last on 24 November of that year, he notched up a total of 26 winners.

Chadwick returned to Hong Kong shortly afterwards and was licensed to begin his Hong Kong career on 15 December 2008, attached to the Tony Cruz stable. On his very first riding day, 20 December, he scored his debut Hong Kong victory on board O'Reilly Rally. He went on to capture a total of 43 winners between then and the end of the season, a tally that was earned him 4th place in the jockeys' premiership and the title of Champion Apprentice Jockey 2008/09.

His maiden success in pattern races came on 1 October 2009 when he rode Egyptian Ra to victory in the National Day Cup, a Hong Kong Group 3 event. On 1 January 2010, Chadwick partnered Egyptian Ra to land the Chinese Club Challenge Cup - his second victory in local pattern races.

Chadwick was also nominated as one of the three Hong Kong representatives in the Cathay Pacific International Jockeys' Championship in December 2009.

Retired... South Breeze (hope he's okay... I think he was hurt after his race on the 1st), Fishking Excellent (last win was 2/08), My Smartie (only 1 win but hey he tried), and Zabeel Treasure (pretty boy hasn't raced in forever).

Don't think he'll win here but still... good luck to Syllabus.

Best Friend, Noble Conqueror (I'd think both would be at decent odds, especially BF) and Really Happy all look good here.

Oh wow Luckyme just won the 4th! That's amazing... he has 4 HK wins and they were all in the 2006 / 2007 season.

Nice!

Chadwick won the first two races...

I'm standing by Soviet Pearl in the 10th. Moonwalk is in the 9th but I've been a Billion fan for a long time and hope he does well. Maybe I've lost my mind but the longshot I like in this one is Osvaldo.
