depends on the horse..
a big fat pony that doesn't get many carrots will bite into anything..
a refined and spoiled saddlebred may turn up it's nose at all but the best carrots..
A thoroughbred should know just what it likes..they might be somewhat selective but always come away with a mouthfull

I've seen the same kinds of things.
Mares seem to like any carrrot that shows up.
Fillies sometimes take a little bite to see if they like it.
Stallions could care less..."feed me".
Geldings always wish the had more.

and then there is the anticipation of the carrot...
some will gladly do anyhing to get one...
some hang back and have to be persuaded..
I've seen a stallion kick a hole in the wall when he thought it was his turn for one

Very true!
One rule we have is if you give a carrot to one, you have to give a carrot to every other one. They get such hurt feelings if they think they've been left out.

I play favorites...otherwise I'd be busy all day finding carrots for everybody..
I have a hard enough time finding carrots for myself..

When I run out of carrots, I switch over to apples.
As long as the bedding is fresh, they don't seem to mind.
