Remember all the grief I got for saying Zenyatta was better than her?
Notice how the horse ships out of SoCal to Monmouth and loses.

Just like the whitney winner, see how he ran up the track out west against a real horse in rail trip

We have two awesome horses in our sport right now which are, unfortunately, on different paths. It's bad timing and bad luck.

Zenyatta is an amazing horse... the way she prances in the paddock, her visual and imposing presence... very cool. And her wins are very dramatic, very exciting.

Rachel Alexandra is brilliant and fast. She's running a lot, not ducking anybody and is capturing headlines.

If you wanted to get down to it and compare ability... well, Zenyatta barely beat a pretty weak horse today. She was a touch out of her element, which is fine. Rachel Alexandra is faster, has more tactical speed and when push comes to shove, probably better.

And we're kinda kidding ourselves a bit if we think a RA/Zen showdown is really going to do "much" for the sport. The average person knows about Rachel, the average person does not know about Zenyatta. Racing fans know about Zenyatta.

Its not bad timing or bad luck, is mismanagement in the game by the people who run it, thats nothing new and if anyone expects more they should find another sport to follow. If the leaders of socal had not mandated to install syn to yield to political pressure this would not have happened. If the Breeders Cup had not decided to run two years in a row at Santa Anita this would not have happened.

I agree with everything else you wrote.

agreed, I thought she actually ran well to be that close at the end. that turf course was a bog and she was on the worst part of it.

The Lady's Secret Stakes is only 8.5 furlongs again.

what the hell is the idea of aiming there next?

these races aren't long enough. Maybe I have false expectations for her, but i think she has shown the talent and has the physical size to be a real classic distance horse. Maybe she has distance limitations?

Ah, number 12 for the powerful Street Cry mare

The undefeated, undisputed champion of all active fillies and mares

Looking more and more like that little filly back east ... Rachael Alexander or whatever her name is ... is gunna have to show up at the CHAMPIONSHIP event in Arcadia this fall if she wants to have any kind of shot at being a legit champion of the division…

They are in separate divisions, so far Zenyatta has been excluded from her races as they are for 3 year olds....

I hope someone takes this last part and uses it as their signature. Then again, it did give me an immediate headache, so maybe not.

While I don't agree with Haskin line-by-line, this is a good article on the Rachel vs. Zenyatta matter:

The part that I didn't like the most was towards the end when he says that both camps must be respected for doing what's best for their filly. I get so tired of hearing that bs line. They are all doing what's best for them, not their horses. The horses will go in the gate and run no matter who they are lined up against. Maybe they are doing what's best for their horse's reputation or record but that's all. And those things are again, in the best interests of the human connections. They are all about trying to win championships that the humans can brag about and raise value so the humans can capitalize.
