I remember Lure being pretty mediocre until Shug tried him on turf.

Can't believe I forgot about Affirmatif. Broke his maiden @ 1 mile on the turf at GP earlier this year. It was also his debut.

He is entered Saturday in a stakes race @ Pimlico......

Won @ 1-2. Looked a little green down the stretch. I will continue to watch him as he progresses.

That was good, however what I mean't was he really looked like something special when Shug tried him on turf the first time. Then later that yeat at Gulfsteam he wired a very good field in BC mile setting some extraordinary fractions.

Speaking of PartyManners youtube vids, did anyone mention Smarty Jones, I remember seeing that one posted somewhere. That one deserves a mention.

His debut was pretty good, but against a bunch of plugs. His 2nd start, in the Pennsylvania Nursery, was an absolute tour de force. He broke slow, rushed up, and went 1:08 3/5 and 1:21 4/5, which is unheard of at Phila Park and even more amazing for a green 2yo. I remember I was in AC at the Borgata and was going nuts that he was going to win the Derby, 6 months later on Derby Day I was back in the same place and the old guys who razzed me were like "you're the guy who was going crazy for this horse back at Philly Park".
I can't find the video anywhere but if anybody has it I haven't seen it in a long time.

Several have already mentioned it, but the most memorable one for me was Artie Schiller: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JfcszNzA0HU

American Day's maiden win in career start #2 (first on turf) was absolutely awesome.

The Nureyev half brother to Best Pal won by 13 in 1:41 and change at HP.

Another turfer that was supposed to have won really impressively was Chapel of Dreams. I never saw her maiden win, but I believe this Northern Dancer half to Storm Cat won by about 15 in her first attempt on turf.

Another NYRA horse I remember was Slew the Dragon. I remember him costing about 800k and his first two starts were up the track finishes on dirt.

Switched to turf at Saratoga, he runs off and wins by 15. He ended up winning something like 6 out of 7 on turf, with his lone loss to Danger's Hour.

I don't think he ever did anything at stud.
