Surprised Kev hasn't paid this thread a visit to tout the patio at Derby Lane. Deep into a weeknight card, it's awesome....

Sounds like the old OTB on State St in Chicago - the bottom level anyways. Went there with the wife and it was like taking a piece of meat thru a zoo full of hungry lions

luckily you didn't get held up leaving the place. Robbers just jump on the El.

That's where all the smokers are. I take off sprinting through there when I need to cross it.

I prefer the OTB on Rockaway Ave in Brooklyn. There are Rastas with Pit Bulls outside and the most delightful bulletproof glass inside. To place a bet and watch race is a two man operation as someone has to drive the getaway car, which must remain running, should you get out alive.

The thrill of wagering on a race and an indiana jones like escape. Ahh yes....

I've been there it's awesome.

Some of my favorites:

Friar Tuck's in the Catskills- you get the whole place to yourself.

Hinsdale NH, was great in it's prime, but we all know how that worked out.

LOL!

On a similar note of abundance, I can note a few of quality from personal attendance.

There's one by the Hartford CT airport that is almost like a sports theater. Institutional food quality though.

I used to love an OTB in Aurora IL.......Chicago southwest suburbs "sticks." If felt more like a bar than an OTB, in a good way.

Downtown Indianapolis IN. Nice lounge chairs like living room furniture

Ruidoso Downs in New Mexico. I guess the facility isn't all that great, but the drive up from either direction is beautiful.....as is the overall setting. Plus full Native American casinos a stone's throw away.

Pleasanton CA. I've stopped in a few times each month for going on 8 years now. One of the things that amazes me is that the supporting personnel has had little if any turnover in that time. Absolutely amazing in the Bay Area. The same ticket sellers, program sellers, bartender, custodian and food providers. It's really a nice friendly atmosphere normally with exactly enough seats on Saturdays and Sundays. Regular attendees all know each other and at minimum recognize with a nod. Food quality is good to great, especially when the grill is fired up on the outside patio on special days. And, the NFL Sunday Ticket on personal TV's available during football season. I really love the place, and it is my fave of my all my OTB experiences.
