Particularly in the early rounds, NIT games seem to mean precisely nothing.

maybe so , my question is is this result a total throwout or not?

there's not much of a gap between wvu and provd

I strongly disagree. West Virginia is an 11 point favorite on a neutral court.

impossible again and wrong again

go and look at last week's lines

louisville in msg was at most -10 over provd and some places had -9

are we to believe then that wvu is a 1 pt favorite over 'ville?

You don't think Providence's stock has taken a hit from an 18 point loss to Louisville and then a 12 point loss home against Miami?

they lost at louisville in feb by 18 and came back and beat pitt by 8 at home, now if the games were diff last thurs at msg and wvu played 'ville and provd played pitt are we to believe that providence couldn't have beat pitt again ??

what does the crystal ball say about that one?

Did you watch Providence - Pitt? They called Blair for everything. There are about 75 teams that could have beat Pitt with that officiating. On a neutral court Pitt would crush Providence.

There is very good reason that West Virginia is a 6 seed in the NCAAs and Providence is a first round exit in the NIT. West Virginia is a much better team.

In conference West Virginia played Pitt, Louisville, and South Florida twice. Providence played Villanova, Cincinnati, and Rutgers. Providence also didn't have to go to Pitt, Syracuse, or Marquette. Those are incredibly unbalanced conference schedules.

Yeah, when West Virginia and Louisville meet in the Elite 8 it will be a 1 or 2 point spread. They are very close. Louisville beat them by 3 and 6 this year, they beat Providence both times by 18. West Virginia beat Providence by 27 when they played.

that's not what you are saying soctt , you threw a number out there (11)

i pointed out the 'vill was 9 or 10 over provd on a neutral court

so based on your numbers west va is better than 'ville and if you set the line you would have wvu over louisville - explain this one to me

I strongly disagree. I think West Virginia is really good and will crush Dayton tomorrow.

u can disagree that's fine

scott posted a thought on a louisville line against west va , i told him i thought he was wrong , if west va plays louisville in the elite 8 , you will see louisville favored by a minimum of 5 points , we can wager on that after the sweet 16 this 1 or 2 point difference between 'ville and west va is baloney you will never see that line in the elite 8

Seriously???

WV is the best 6 seed possibly in the history of the tournament, at least since KU in '88, and Providence is a mediocre scrappy team with a new coach who had an OK year. There isn't much of a gap... it's a CHASM.

listen this all started off based on last week

louisville was a 9/10 pt favorite over prov

scott said west va s/b an 11 pt fav over provd right now , fine that's his opinion

he is factoring in the miami game , which to some extent is a throwout because we don't know if they were trying or not as hard as possible

now this week

west va is a -9 pt fav over dayton , scott has west va as an 11 pt fav this week over prov if they played this week , so is it safe for me to assume that dayton is really better than providence now?

now my other example is from last week

louisville -7.5 ove syr

west va -6.5 over syr

based on those 2 lines from last week louisville was a 1 pt fav over west va

but

you are forgetting the o/n line that came out before syracuse played wvu had them as a 1.5/2 pt fav over syracuse

At worst it would be a pickem and I think Dayton would be favored by 1 or 2. Providence went 10-8 in the Big East which is misleading since they had such an easy schedule and got really lucky. They'd be solid underdogs to either Notre Dame or Georgetown and a pickem against Cincinnati and Seton Hall. They are really not a very good team and I wish I knew they were only +9 against Louisville as that was a gift. Dayton only being +9 today is a very nice line as well.

Can't say a lock because they are so damn inconsistent and you know as well as I do that a meaningless three at the buzzer can be the difference between an 11 point win and an 8 point win. What I can say is WV should win by 11 which makes the line of 9 very good value and I'll be playing it.
