It's state specific. Pick up the condition book, most of them have all of the rules, regulations, etc. on claiming. If by some chance it's not covered in the condition book, ask someone in the racing office or licensing office. They will have all of the information. The rules start on eligibility, then go on to licensing, getting money to the horsemen's bookkeeper's office, procedure to actually claim a horse, the race, post-race, racing back, and more.

I've claimed horses all over the country and it ranges from easy to jumping thorugh more hoops than a circus animal act.
