Ah, I was just about to add him after I updated the waiting thread.

Also Silver Nat....

http://www.nola.com/horseracing/inde..._memory_a.html

In the fifth race, for $5,000 claimers, Silver Nat broke his left front leg while running on the final turn and was euthanized. Jockey James Graham, who was thrown from Silver Nat and appeared to be struck by the trailing Fabulous Freebord, rode in the next race. Graham took off the rest of his mounts. Britt McGehee, his agent, said after the races that Graham felt stiffness but was hopeful about riding Thursday.

As I said in the waiting thread this is highly unusual at the Fairgrounds, I think a black cloud is hanging over Gentilly.

RIP boys....

Secret Savings looses battle with laminitis 03 Jan 2009

Emirates Park Stud

Emirates Park Stud has announced that it is with a considerable degree of sadness for His Excellency Nasser Lootah and all concerned with Emirates Park to report that stud stalwart Secret Savings (USA) met with his demise a few days before Christmas following a long-term battle with laminitis.

One of the cornerstones of the Emirates Park racing and breeding enterprise, Secret Savings was forced out of stud service at the beginning of the 2008 breeding season when incapable of covering his intended book of mares.

Following a tendon operation undertaken to bring relief to the injury and hopefully rectify the problem long-term, Secret Savings was put in a cast but subsequently broke a humerus.

No other decision could be made but to humanely put to sleep the imported son of Seeking the Gold in order to put him out of his suffering.

Emirates Park director of operations Dr Sahu and his staff had done everything in their powers to manage the problem over a number of years and probably extended the stud career of Secret Savings by a handful of years due to their professionalism and expert care.

In such time, Secret Savings has enhanced his name as one of Australia's most consistent stallions and he will long be remembered as one of the finest representatives of the Mr Prospector sireline ever to become available to domestic broodmare owners.

At the time of his death, Secret Savings was accredited with 265 individual winners of which no fewer than 36 are stakes horses.

In 2008 alone, Secret Savings was represented by the Group/Listed winners Swiss Ace (QTC Sir Byrne Hart S-G2), Caymans (MRC Sandown Guineas-G3) and Acorns (QTC J.F. Meynink S-LR), as well as another three stakes placegetters.

However, Secret Savings will best be remembered for his success in the Group 1 AJC Doncaster Handicap in the red, blue and white colours of His Excellency Nasser Lootah, and for siring the triple Group 1 winning racemare Shamekha, who also raced in the livery of Emirates Park’s principal.

The 2009 yearling sales series will see the penultimate crop of Secret Savings offered for sale, beginning with the Magic Millions Gold Coast premier sessions staged during the second week of January.

Toussaud, 2002 Kentucky Broodmare of the Year for Khalid Abdullah's Juddmonte Farms, was euthanized Jan. 5 because of declining health. The 20-year-old daughter of El Gran Senor had been pensioned the last two years. She was the dam of grade I winners Chester House, Empire Maker, Chiselling, and Honest Lady, plus grade II winner Decarchy.

Update: A more in depth article at DRF:
http://www.drf.com/news/article/100900.html

interesting "personal touch" in the article

Quote:
Toussaud also was famous for her quirky personality. Trained by Bobby Frankel, she was known to stop suddenly in the middle of gallops and refuse to move. She also declined to breeze from a racetrack pole, requiring Frankel to breeze her only from the gate. She passed some of her eccentricity, as well as her strength of character, on to many of her foals.

She was obviously a great broodmare but was an even more special character with a very unique personality, said the farm statement announcing her death. ÂThough amazingly stubborn at times, she was never seen to pin her ears or try to intentionally harm anyone or anything. She had a very kind yet powerfully strong and resilient nature that lives on in the competitive juices of offspring of Chester House, Empire Maker, Decarchy, and her daughter Honest Lady.

Aqueduct: Riz Sauvage, a 5-year-old gelded son of Dynaformer, had to be euthanized on the track after suffering a catastrophic injury to his left foreleg during the running of Wednesday's nightcap.

Nor Nor East, an 11 year old gelding, at Cheltenham (Class 2 Annual Pony Club Raceday Handicap Chase) on New Year's day of a heart attack. This was only his 10th start.

No word on Openide, Gaelic Gift and L'Aventure (who either fell or were pulled up).

Jump in peace.
