good question.

my big question was how do these graded races they've been having retain their status? one requirement of keeping their status is that the conditions be the same from year to year, that obviously is no longer the case on tracks with AWT surfaces.

So when a track decides to re-installed its turf/sod, which numerous tracks have done over the years, should they lose their Graded status as well?

you're not seriously trying to compare replacing grass with grass, with removing dirt and installing wax, sand and rubber?

well, imo-which means nothing to the graded stakes committe, i don't think it's comparable. the only thing the main track has in common with the old main tracks that were real dirt is that they still aren't green.

track surfaces changes dont merit a downgrade I believe

i just think that if a race can lose it's graded status when a race is moved from turf to main for instance, that the argument could be made about changing from dirt to awt. it doesn't matter tho, it won't happen.

only if it is a off the turf race. Havent there been races that have gone from dirt races to turf races and maintained the same status? lots of races switch distances all the time with no change in grades. The graded system is in need of a complete overhaul anyway

i don't know about dirt to turf. but if they don't lose it, why do they take it for going to the main track? that makes no sense...
but it is due an overhaul.

because a field of turf horses running on dirt is rarely representative of a race of a similar grade on the dirt. the committee does not have to drop the grade for an off the turfer though.

I'm just glad we all got to see M LUTE put it all together again. I knew they couldn't run with him if he stayed together (physically)during the race. That's the most talented horse Baffert has ever trained.
