I'll admit I'm not factoring them in here on this thread (basically because I don't have them in front of me). It just seems that you were knocking horses that actually got in dog fights to earn their victories, as though it is an inferior horse that actually has to reach down to get to the wire first.

In the case of the '88 Distaff, it also doesn't appear that you are considering the track conditions (sloppy track) that day. Maybe that has something to do with the low figures for the race. In addition, it could be argued that victory in less than ideal circumstances exalts the performance even more, though at the expense of "how fast" she ran.

Meanwhile, you drool over lopsided wins by Inside Information and Skip Away. Belmont in '95 was also a wet track, but IIRC it seems like the track played the way Monmouth did (favoring the lucky few who relished it and/or had the right style for it, while being insurmountable to those that couldn't handle it). In the case of Skip Away, he faced one of the weakest fields ever in the Classic and really had little to overcome other than getting around there safely.

I remember you were in love with this horse in some other thread, which is why I focused on her in another post. Even if she was so great that year, clearly she didn't run her race on BC day.

IIRC she had enough trouble knocking heads with At The Half and My Sea Castles during her career...

Loved the "all-world ankle biter" bit by the way. That's gotta be at least as accurate as the 120 Beyer for the Turfway BC...
