There is a ceiling for what a closer can make and Nathan would not have played 2nd fiddle to anyone. He would have been more sought after than Krod. The saves record is nice but it is a record of opportunity as much as anything. Since the Angels didnt score a lot of runs there were an extraordinary number of save chances. He did well with him opportunities but Nathan is every bit as good as him, maybe better.

K-Rod was sought after long before this season, which was arguably his worst. Nathan was born in 1974, K-Rod was born in 1982 and already has more career saves than Nathan. That gives K-Rod significantly more value in the open market.
