For a horse that has won five out of six Grade 1 races including the Derby and Preakness, how is this horse so disrespected by some of you? If you want to disrespect Big Brown's connections, I get that, but this has been a very good quality horse for us to enjoy this year.
Since the Preakness (5-0), he gets so much blustering on here. Here's what happened since then: How about a pass on The Belmont? Gimme a break. Third race in five weeks and who knows why he didn't show up, just speculation. But it wasn't the same Big Brown. You don't think he would normally beat Da'Tara a horse that finished the Florida Derby when Big Brown was a zipcode past the finish line? And then there was The Haskell that hardly any on here give him credit for. His chasing down Coal Play to win is very similar to Affirmed chasing the front running Sensitive Prince in the last 100 yards in the Jim Dandy that Laz Barrera considered one of Affirmed's finest efforts. Big Brown did the same thing and gets little credit. Memo to Big Brown Bashers........."Give it a rest." |

Wasn't, by all accounts, his Haskell visually unimpressive, getting left for dead on the turn, full out and under a savage right-handed whip, before finally reeling in a tiring allowance horse while drifting out considerably through the lane? And yet, still, if you buy it, he got one of his best speed figures? Just think how good he would be with some time off and 4 good feet under him. If he stays in training (I realize the plan is to retire him at the end of the year), he could end up finishing his campaign the way Touch Gold did (see the '97 Pegasus and BC Classic). Aside from their ridiculous boasting, IEAH take a lot flack here because they are basically not doing right by Big Brown. They aren't giving him a shot to be the horse they claim he is (by not running him at 4) and his continued campaigning this year is somewhat reckless if you think he has significant physical problems (namely his quarter crack). |

QUOTE] Haskell victory was quite impressive. It proved he could win from behind, something he never needed to do. And if you are going to use the "savage right-handed whip card" then you might as well include the majority of other champions in the same breath. |

And how far out of it exactly was he in the Haskell? A length and a half, maybe? Most of the problems he "overcame" in the Haskell probably had more to do with his own physical condition then any circumstances related to how the race setup or was ultimately run. In that regard, Big Brown's Haskell was a step below his other performances, and a red flag as far as future efforts are concerned. Of course, if the Belmont effort didn't cause them to back off, certainly him winning in New Jersey isn't going to stop IEAH from their masterplan. |

He won them both by accelerating at the top of the stretch. That is hardly coming from behind. |

Oh wait, they just lope along one-paced and pass tiring horses. Much more impressive... |

horse(s) tired. When the race was over, Big Brown wasn't tired and hasn't loped yet, only won every race he entered except one, which he should have never been entered for a multitude of reasons except a TC was on the line. |

Umm newsflash...he was further back in the Derby. Also was off the pace in The Preakness. At least get your facts somewhat straight. What was impressive about The Haskell? He sat a perfect trip 2nd to an average horse...then he was all out to beat him. BB didnt pass Zito's horse....Zito's horse slowed down enough in the final 100 yds for BB to get by. |
