I guess but it looked to me she sat an absolute perfect trip and couldn't get to the top 3. The winner had to check due to her and still ran by her with relative ease.

Default Steve - Highlighted Plays

Steve:

Great job on your highligted bold plays the last couple of days.
Unity in the nightcap today and you also had a couple at Saratoga yesterday including the Buckley horse in the first and the single yesterday in the next to last race at Del Mar. I have been right there with you on these bolded plays.

Big welcome to the DT board to my long time friend, Caf-man.

Right out of the box with a smart a$$ comment.

I can't even go to Sizzler with today's hit.

I thought Dr. Decter ran like a 1st time starter with alot of promise yesterday, he made a big move on the turn and then flattened out. Coa perhaps moved a tad early and he hung abit towards the end. The unfortunate thing now is for those who liked him in yesterday's race will not get anything near the 8-1 they got on him yesterday. A missed opportunity I thought.

He did make a nice move into contention after getting squeezed at the start, and he's almost certainly the best horse in yesterday's race, but he's also a 4YO who debuted in August.....26 months after being purchased as a 2YO.

Can anyone say major problems?

He won't be a price next time out, so it's probably moot. But I'm not willing to conceded anything to him. While the bad luck makes him look superior on the surface, I'm not certain that was exactly the case. If he breaks, he hooks the 4 earlier and after running that accelerated 2nd quarter, the race probably collapses in time rather than too late. The perfect trip winner probably still wins, though I'm not certain that any number of horses running late wouldn't have gotten up.

Well, I'm sure you know who I think would have won with a professional ride(r).

I also agree with your overall assessment. You have to take the good with the bad....and a lot of good happened to that horse. I won't be diving in at 6:5 next time.

Something must've been special about him...they paid more than 40x stud fee for him...

I think if anyone can, it would be Tagg. If I am not mistaken Showing Up had his problems, however that one did most of his damage as a 3 yr old I believe.

Showing Up was a superior animal.....and frankly Tagg didn't really keep him together.

This horse is, at best, a reasonably talented mediocrity. I think you need to take a longer look at who he was racing against. This horse is not, nor will he ever be, a " good " horse.

I wasn't disageeing, I was just saying if anyone can get a 4 yr old Mdn. to produce he's in pretty good hands. From what I know Tagg is a good patient Trainer. No way this horse is Showing Up, no one quote me on that please....

I have a picture of Showing Up on my wall winning the Hollywood Derby. If he had stayed healthy, that was one nice colt. Go back and watch his Derby, chases his stablemate all the way around and is still 2nd with a furlong to go in only his 4th career start.

One of my favorite races of last year was the Marker's Mark, Pretty good field with Kip Deville outlasting Showing Up. Everyone knows what he went on to accomplish in 07. Sky Conqueror came out of that race to win at Churchill The Woodford Reserve, while Remarkable News won the Dixie and the Firecracker.

Wrong. Watch the final furlong again. Dominquez had plenty of horse late and tried to squeeze through at the rail but had to give up as he had nowhere to go.. Of course Light Tatic went by with relative ease as Dominquez had to give up his quest to get through...

Did you watch the head on? Dominguez at the top of the stretch had the horse outside the two leaders and one of them shifted out while the winner ranged up outside of him. It looks as though Salt Water Reign began to drift a little bit inside where Dominguez took her to the rail where she had plenty of room. The horse was not good enough to win that race.

I will watch the head on but from the pan in the final 1/16th it looked to me like the horse had good action.

She would (should) have been taken down even if she were to have gotten up for impeding the 7 by way of the 4 through the turn - there was plenty of room inside, I don't know if Dominguez was futzing with his goggles, lost sight of the wire, or if the horse just flat had nothing left...She was pretty damn near empty after the race... I agree though that she was outclassed in that field
