Very nice call which I too got a piece of after seeing her replay from her last where she closed almost as well as SB. I would have been happier if the 7 had stayed up but a few bucks for the kitty and another lesson for the noodle as the pattern holds where the speed fizzles at Del Mar when the longer sprints, 6.5 and up, are the distance.

All in all a reasonable reward for reasonable work on this card...

Stardom Bound kicked by pony
By Brad Free

ARCADIA, Calif. – Stardom Bound’s participation in the Grade 1 Oak Leaf Stakes on Saturday at Santa Anita was in doubt Friday morning after the 2-year-old filly was kicked by a pony after a morning gallop. X-rays were pending.

The electrifying winner of the Grade 1 Del Mar Debutante in her most recent start, Stardom Bound was expected to start favored in the Oak Leaf. But trainer Chris Paasch said she was kicked by a pony coming off the Santa Anita track, and was being X-rayed late Friday morning.

She was kicked on the inside of the right leg.

“It won’t require stitches, but it’s so close to the joint that we are concerned,” Paasch said. “If she’s not 100 percent, I will not run her.”

Paasch said results of the X-ray would be known Friday afternoon. Owned by Charles Cono, Stardom Bound won the Debutante by more than four lengths and was widely considered the top 2-year-old in California and a leading candidate for the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies.

That is indeed a nice pre-debut call by you.
Granted she was a $375,000 purchase, so it stood to reason that there was something there, but still.....not a bad call picking a Tapit filly that was sent off at 4/1 in her debut, and having her perform in this manner. Nice work.

I'm so happy for SB and for her connections - what a way for Mr. Cono and Mr. Paasch (sorry, I'm sure I spelled his name wrong) to go out. SB looked like she was shot out of a cannon - I thought maybe Mike moved too soon, but hey - if the horse wants to go, you let her go. What a sweet day for Tapit - a 3rd and a 1st in the Breeders Cup and his first champion.
