It is not 2.5 hrs. It is about 3 hrs from Saratoga Springs to the Bronx but it will take you 5-6hrs door to seat, just like the train. The traffic near the Stadium is a nightmare.

The tour is ok and is pretty cheap, like $10-15. It really isn't anything special though but try to do it simply to get to the stadium early which will save you a nightmare trying to get in around first pitch.
