Do people not realize the magnitude of bat
it takes to show up on a weather radar?

Apparently, they fly in formation like that because it scares the birds away.

And I thank you Ms. Gator.
If anyone has seen phenomena it begs the question.

Really quite interesting, the radar and the reason why they spiral.

For the record the radar pic came up for me on the first post.

Is this unusual or does it re-occur every year?

I have seen bats come out of caves before but never thought it could be read on radar.

It happens here every so often if they all come out at roughly the same time.
Sometimes they trickle out and it does not show up. But this is a huge colony of bats. Much much larger than the one at Carlsbad. In fact in may be the largest in North America.

Hmmm, didn't know that (larger than Carlsbad) and your in San Antonio, did you see them or it was just on the radar?

BTW can you go catch some and send them here to eat the mosquitoes.....
We have a few bats around here but not that many. I'm thinking about getting some bat houses.

They may be returning to Louisville.

It's like Capistrano.

Its out by Retama Park the racetrack and I have a friend out there. He saw them coming out and called me. Then I saw them on the radar. It was not raining out there, not even that cloudy and it was right at sunset. I have seen them come out before.

Its dangerous to get real close because rattlesnakes and all sorts of other critters come up to eat any of the sick ones that might not make it on the fly out. It only happens around sunset and for some reason they come out real dense certain summer evenings and it shows up on the radar.

I can send you some if you can get Morty to come down
here and we can use his hair as a giant net.
