I do not know your complete history of your posts here, but one thing I do know is, this is a highly charged topic one that an awful alot of people care about. One has to excercise some "common sense" and "tact" with when conversing with others in a community, you have to think sometimes before you hit the post button.

i know.... its just hard for me to understand how this can be the topic of the day... we should be focusing on other parts of the sport... the horses, the racing... pick 6 carryover's... not this horrible incident

I get your sentiment (I think), but when a jockey nearly takes out his mount's eye with a whip.. That's probably worth 'topic of the day' status on a Tuesday.

i have always loved rose... way way before afleet alex.... i have always found him underated, and thought he could ride at any meet in usa. i love betting him, i bet him pretty good on Lady Digby this past weekend.
maybe i should not post in this thread anymore, i do not mean to offend anyone, and there is no excuse for what he did... i just hope somehow it was a accident

I find this very disturbing and really bad news if it is true. It doesn't look good to me, so I am sure it doesn't look good to others. Frankly, maybe I am naive, but I would have never expected this out of Jeremy.

I think we are all waiting for Jeremy's response, in all fairness I want to reserve judgement until we hear what he has to say. One would have to hope there will be some sort of remorse or apology, and not the scripted response kind. I think most of us want to know where his head is at and if this will be a lesson learned the hard...no let's say unfortunate way.

Look there have been posts which resemble two broads posting their am i hot or not pictures on a miley cyrus fan forum and asking the rest of the forum which is hotter.

This topic is far more important than that.

This is a clear cut situation. It is very bad. Intent doesn't matter. Rose has to be held accountable for his actions. Is there a "his side of the story" so to speak? Possibly. Victor Carrero didn't have a "his side of the story" -- he did what he did out of anger, frustration, etc. -- and no offense, that didn't mean a thing. He faced the music for his actions. I understand the "other side" and how that can play out, but that doesn't justify or explain this type of action.

It doesn't matter if it was a cheap claimer or a stake horse. I don't care. Nobody else should either. It doesn't matter. I don't care what PETA has to say -- I don't need them telling me this was wrong, or bad, or whatever. I certainly don't need them furthering their own, and often uneducated, agenda by distorting truths. Handing out punishments due to public pressure or duress, educated or not, can be very dangerous. OTOH, it can cut both ways. The educated public, people in the business, etc. must know that regulatory bodies are serious and that there is bite behind the bark. Perhaps though, you can never satisfy the uneducated public. You can't increase penalties because you are afraid of "what people might think" -- or else you are not governing with confidence and integrity; you are governing for popularity. Doing what is right means sometimes doing what is unpopular.

Unfortuantely, often, there can be no standard. You want to tell me there should be a minimum -- OK, I see that. A minimum of X days, y dollar fine, anger management, community/backstretch service, etc. -- OK, that's fine. In our own legal systems, we have sentencing guidelines, mandatory sentences, graduated sentencing, etc. Perhaps we need that within our own "system" for our sport.

Eric

this dwarfs the carrero situation as he was not responsible for the injury, just really horrible judgement and temper.
