I've been watching thoroughbred racing events on television since nearly the beginning.

I can truthfully say my favorite events were those with Jim McKay present.

He displayed a complete feeling for the moment, as a journalist and as a fan.


His narration on the "Jewels of the Triple Crown" is one of my all time favorites. Pending this afternoon's race, it remains a complete body of work...

Jack Whitaker was another great part of that broadcast team. guys that really were into the sport.

HBO had an awesome documentary on Jim McKay in the last year or two (memory is shot). It showed a bunch of Wide World of Sports stuff as well as the tragic Munich Olympics hostage crisis that made him a mainstream (not just sports) star. Also, great stories told by Jim to go along with the footage.

Here's hoping they revive it so I can put it on a DVD.

yeah, i watched it-very good show. but it brought up some memories i'd rather keep buried, mainly go for wands last race.

yep, and charlsie usually on as well. of course we have randy moss today. and, well.....



randy moss is the only bright spot i can think of as far as race coverage.
