good question. that meet was a debacle. the whole poly/cushion thing should of been researched. as trying it for training only. california was desparate and jumped the gun. look what happened. and the racing at del mar stinks too. the outcomes are stupid and the horses run harness track fractions. as someone else said, how about real dirt with proper maintenence. i guess the brain trusts out there never thought about that. as for breakdowns i saw the worst one you'll ever see at hollywood last week. if a horse gets hurt, unfortunatly its the risk jockeys and horses take. its a dangerous game. but how some man made surface is going to improve that is beyond me. remember how great artificial turf was going to be for sports ? well they get hurt worse ! plus some jockeys wear surgical masks as to not breathe the crap in . whats this tell you !
