I figure it's almost certainly the result of the ownership issue. I mean think about it, it'd turn it into a huge mess if they've got him cranking out the millions in stud fees and they probably figure they can get Midnight Cry's share away from them eventually and get 100% instead of 80%. They might think the contractual messes that'd be created are more costly than taking a risk and keeping him on the track and taking in the purse money they're pretty sure he'd bring in--which he has done.

The padding of the resume will help sure and the reputation in the pantheon is certainly gravy but that hasn't kept a lot of horses from checking out early. As I said, they figure 20% of Curlin is out there to be had easier while he's racing and that 20% is worth enough $$$ they'll try to be patient so they can get it. I mean think about it, as long as he's earning racing money, even if the folks suing get a piece of the purse, it's nothing to 20% of his breeding value and they'll probably sell for less than a big wig would pay for it just to get the payout. I hope those two lawyers give up the ghost and end the headache for everybody on this horse and that case.
