Personally I think Invasor wins easily. I think Flower Alley has too much residual Pletcher juice in him. Why else would a horse that danced every dance last year not run for 8 months? I would love to see the Lava Man win the BCC classic, but I think he is being mismanaged with too many 1 1/4 mile races on the left coast. He burnt out at this time last year, and I can see it happening again based on his HGC. BCC winner? Bernie.

BTW, why the hell is my home track Sam Houston? The only thing good about Texas is that Bush and Shrub both consider themselves Texans, when we all know they are from Greenwich CT. We nutmeggers cringe thinking of them as ours

what you're suggesting about lava man is probably the reason pletcher is bringing FA along like he is...

i hope you're wrong about lava man tho. the gelding lovers are always on and on about perfect drift (with good reason) and funny cide (not so good reason lol!) but where's the love for lava man?

From DRF.....

One in, one out of Whitney

Saturday's $750,000 Whitney Handicap gained one starter and lost another potential candidate when trainer Shug McGaughey confirmed that Survivalist was in and Zito said Commentator was definitely out of the Grade 1 race.

Survivalist will bring a three-race win streak into the Whitney. A homebred son of Danzig, Survivalist won the Grade 3 Gotham and was a distant second behind Bellamy Road in the Grade 1 Wood Memorial at 3.

"He worked good yesterday, he went a half in 48 and change and galloped out in 1:01 and change," said McGaughey on Monday. "This is a big step up for us but we might as well give it a try. His last three races have all been good. This will be a caliber of horses he's never seen before but I think he'll be competitive with them."

Zito said he will await either the Grade 1, seven-furlong Forego here on Sept. 2 or the 1 1/8-mile Woodward the following week with Commentator, who has made only one start since finishing a distant third to Saint Liam in the 2005 Woodward.

"We considered the Whitney up until this morning, but this will give us some extra time to prepare for the next one," said Zito on Monday. "It's not that I don't think he's good enough to run in the Whitney. I just don't think he's up to it with only one race against New York-breds under his belt. My first priority is to consider doing what's best for the horse and I just can't do it right now."

Andromeda's Hero sharp in victory

Zito will still send out a pair in the Whitney with Sun King and Wanderin Boy both confirmed for the race. He may also have found himself another starter for the Woodward following Andromeda's Hero's gritty victory in Monday's third race. Andromeda's Hero raced wide and appeared hopelessly beaten at the eighth pole before surging late under jockey Cornelio Velasquez to catch Bank President in the final 40 yards of the optional claiming race.

"I was really happy with that performance," said Zito. "All good horses need a break once in a while, dropping back against softer competition, although as it turned out it wasn't so easy. But considering the circumstances I thought he ran a big race and it will be good for him down the road, not only confidence-wise but because Cornelio had to keep him in the bridle early and he should be able to keep a little closer to the pace next time."

Flower Alley has a huge advantage over Invasor with two very strong races over the track. Probably looking at a small field. Zito said Commentator will not run per DRF.

Flower Alley (Pletcher/Velazquez)
Andromedas Hero (Zito/Velasquez)
Sun King (Zito/Bejerano)
Premium Tap (Kimmel/Prado)
Invasor (McLaughlin/Castellano)

I read this after his overnight stakes win. Perhaps things have changed

Quote:
Zito was noncommittal on whether he would keep Commentator sprinting or stretch him out again. Two Grade 1 races that Commentator could be pointed to - the seven-furlong Forego or the nine-furlong Woodward - are both run on Sept. 2 at Saratoga. Zito said he would not run Commentator back in the Whitney on Aug. 5.

Perhaps they are changing their minds. Evidentally he's been nominated

Commentator will work over the weekend, after which Zito will sit down with owner Tracy Farmer and make a decision (about the Whtiney). The two are expected to run Sun King in the Whitney against Flower Alley and Invasor.

Andromedas Hero will run off of 4 days rest?

If Commentator and Invasor both start it should be a heck of a race.

Looking forward to it.

Premium Tap is a sprinter isnt he? Sun King is much better at the sprint distances up to 1 mile. I dont like either of these 2.

Flower Alley is, well Flower Alley. Great horse, loves this place. If all these mentioned horses start, he should work out a great stalking trip on a track thats been favoring these kind.

Lol, probably not. Just read DTS's post and went with it. Given that the horse looked like a tired drunk down the lane (or was it just me? ) I cant see them bringing him back quickly at all!

Even tired drunks can beat Wilko

I've seen drunken sailors walk straighter and stronger than that.
