it's telling that his defender's feel it neccesary to cite the player's who found him inspiring. I would assume all coach's at the college level have that.

if inspiration is fear, then he's the best at it.
knights teams usually, hustle, play good defense, run good motion offense and make few mistakes. they are in proper postions on the floor and aware of game situations. thats all good coaching.
i admit i don't like knights act but respect his results and his teams. personally, i'm a dean smith fan and the carolina chain of coaches.

i don't have facts that support this. but what i think is that for every player he inspires to maximize their talant there is another he has ruined.

he's a great coach. and for some players he's exactly what they need.

but he comes with serious baggage. i don't think that's true for dean smith. and many other's.

i read the only player that dean smith ever advised to leave school early was rasheed wallace, because he wanted him OUT of the program. apparently CDS couldn't through to him. i don't think knight really dealt with kids like wallace.

alot of coach smith teams were wrecked by guys leaving early, clear back to bob mcadoo. also some of his best teams were back when the tourny. was only 16 teams and only 1 team from the acc got in. that's the acc tourny. winner.

That is simply not true. He coached in the era of players staying 4 years until the end of his career when he had the most success. He was an underachiever as a coach though he was a great recruiter and ran a great program. Coach Wooden seemed to do ok under the smaller tourney format.
