Uh oh.
Here, No Chance. 驊綵 It means Elite Champion and it's St. Phillip's new name. * * * From SCMP..... A good idea. What's in a name? More turnover if identity is revealed ON THE RAILS, with ALAN AITKEN In the era of globalisation, the Jockey Club might do well to investigate what can be done about ensuring that overseas punters are aware of the underlying identity of the horses on which they bet. Particularly with reference to Europe and Australasia, the almost-routine name change horses receive when they arrive in Hong Kong for their new owners often serves to muddy the waters for players in foreign countries. One good example from Monday's racing is Enthused, who was carving a very promising career as Let's Migrate in Melbourne, including defeat of a subsequent Group One performer at his final start. Doubtless punters in Australia would be more encouraged to back the horse in his Hong Kong races knowing his previous name, but when they look on the field lists at the name Enthused, it means little to them. And, of course, there are many, many other similar cases. One suggestion is that since Hong Kong owners give their horses a Chinese name as well, they should not be allowed to alter the English name, but this column doesn't think that's very fair to owners who have spent significant money to buy the rights, including naming rights, to their horse. Perhaps field listings in other jurisdictions betting on Hong Kong should always carry the extra detail, ex-Let's Migrate (Australia) for example. It's a small thing, but might add up to some turnover bucks in the commingling future. |

I don't agree with it, but i know they have every right to do so. However, i do wish they would print their old names as well as their new ones. It would makes it much more appealing to the european racing fan, especially me who would love to follow Hong Kong racing but i don't know who is who out there of the ex european horses.

Sometimes things are worded carefully but at least they published this. The HKJC isn't thrilled with certain pieces that they've done and as you know they're VERY powerful. You go, SCMP! ![]() |

It started with a quote from Danny last season..... something very disrespectful. I mean, the hourglass was turned back then. The Sacred Kingdom nightmare... http://www.derbytrail.com/forums/showthread.php?t=16692 ... ummm, well see in it what you will. It was only a matter of time. |

Maybe his new name will be Helene Win.....
Salford Mill sold to continue racing career in Hong Kong by Tony Elves DERBY also-ran Salford Mill has been sold for an undisclosed sum to continue his racing career in Hong Kong and is likely to leave Newmarket in around two weeks time. The son of Peintre Celebre landed the Listed Newmarket Stakes on the Rowley Mile course by length and a quarter from Acapulco before finishing sixth of 17 to Authorized at Epsom, where he didn't have the best of luck in running. Salford Mill has his final start for David Elsworth in the Group 3 Arc Trial at Newbury last month and his trainer expects him to prove a very useful acquisition to Hong Kong. Elsworth said: “Salford Mill has gone into quarantine and is going to Hong Kong in a couple of weeks' time. “He was a lovely horse and we reluctantly sold him but it was a commercial decision and money speaks all languages. He looks the sort to improve considerably and I would have loved to have been able to train him next year but there you go.” |
