Same as last year, George Washington should be entered in the Classic if he comes at all. Nothing to prove in the Mile.

george hasn't exactly set the world on fire this year. if he was able to ship and win the mile, he'd prove more than to ship and fail again. of course, no worries about stud fees, so maybe they'll chance bringing him.

I'm not saying that he's proven he's the best miler in the world. I didn't even think he was the best last year either. What he has proven is that he's a world class horse at a mile on the grass. A win in the Mile or a good showing is not going to change that. Neither will a loss. His accomplishments on the grass at 8f are set in stone at this point so I don't see anything to gain in as far as what Coolmore is looking for in him. If they are looking for the best chance for him to win, then I'd say that the Mile probably would be the best spot. But they are breeders first and the racing interest is secondary to them and with that in mind, they are trying to establish that GW can indeed be a top level dirt horse as well as grass. A good showing in the Classic would do that. In my opinion, this year looks like a very soft Classic field and a good chance to get a placing that would look good on paper.

Since he's proven sterile, I'd say the Mile is the option. It's not like they have a marketing issue. At this point, he's like a gelding, a money earning machine as a racehorse. He's not a dirt horse, why try him on dirt. If you want him on dirt, try the Mile(and 70y) Dirt. At least it's within his distance range.
The reason for trying him, seeing if you can open other doors, is to market a stallion as widely as possible. Proven form on dirt opens the door to US breeders, as Giant's Causeway proved. Now that the reason for such moves is off the table, run him where he can win.

That worked well the first time. What don't people understand about Danehill being useless as a dirt sire?

Same folks thought a Sadler's Wells could win a major dirt race. It ain't gonna happen.
