Some of the good bars in Saratoga are the Parting Glass & Baileys. Baileys has a nice outdoor patio & live bands. They once had guest jockey bartending nights for charity. A few years ago it was JV, Santos & Robbie Albarado. We had a great time hanging out with them & RA really likes to throw back shots. I know that there has always been live bands on Caroline Street during Travers weekend. I am not certain if they still do that.

I like this place for drinks too. I've heard mixed thoughts on their food, but the filet was done perfectly for me. Good ambiance:

Jockey bartending night was fun. The tips went to support (at the time) the Disabled Jockeys Fund. While they haven't done it recently, there's always a couple of "events" or something of the like. There used to be the official jockey karaoke, which kind of turned into the "unofficial" jockey karaoke, LOL.

If you are over 30 then avoid the Parting Glass like the plague. If you want to impress your wives bring them to the cafe in the Adelphi Hotel on Broadway. Much more discriminating crowd.

I've been to the track five times this year and I'm usually hammered by the
8th race. I'd love to see the night life in Saratoga. After drinking beers, going back and forth from the paddock and the track plus hitting the pisser about 20 times a day, I'm too beat to hit the night life. I hit Leon's for a couple of Margaritas and call it a day.

Another good Italian place is Paradiso on South Broaway. Delicious food served family style. I also like Bentley's in Malta. It's only about 10 minutes from the track on 9s. Great food & Nice atmosphere. Great steamed clams. Anyone who is a Red Sox fan will especially love it. They have all kinds of Red Sox stuff all over the place.

Here are the links to info for both places:

Il Paradiso is owned by the same folks that had Don Peppe's on Leffert Blvd in Queens. They used to have Villa Balsamo out on Rte 50 but that has been shut down for years.

I'm pretty sure that is where we all went on opening weekend before realizing our ragtag crew didn't exactly fit in there (nor did we feel like spending $24 for a house salad).

Sergio's is one place I'd like to go to before the summer is over.

How could anyone not like the Parting Glass. They have over 50 beers on tap & in bottles. After you are piss drunk, you can go in the back room and throw darts all over the place.

The same goes for Gaffney's at night. It's WAY too crowded. If you are looking for a nice bar to just chill and relax Parting Glass and Gafney's are not it.
But I would still check out those places during the day if you aren't at the track. There are wonderfull.

I'm 29 and the Parting Glass is my FAVORITE! Yes, crowded... but filled with racing memorabilia and definitely a beer lover's paradise. I can't find a lot of those beers elsewhere.

Check with Byk....he can recommend this wonderful place that charges $15 for a house salad and $13 for a side plate of brocolli.
