You're certainly entitled to your opinion. I also initially thought about the "bottled up on the rail" trip. Coulda been seen that way.
Watch a replay a couple of times and look for this.
Clean break from the gate. Kept close enough while he found stride (relax him). Moved at the right time. Right lead change at the top of the stretch and took him outside. Avoided problems when CP West lugged out and bumped him twice in the stretch. Game over, one and a quarter length win.
That's plenty good race riding to me. Seems that Calvin knows this horse quite well and proved the best for both of them.
