It isn't suprising that it is lower than the actual Beyer of 81 since she didn't lose much ground which is factored into the Thorograph figure.
I agree. I should have been more descriptive regarding some other stuff. Fact is that for the progression to continue, Chuck just needs to continue what he is doing, and that is keeping her happy and letting her come into her own.

Anyone have the Thorographs for Rags to Riches? I'm curious how her Las Virgenes where she was wicked wide compares to her Oaks and Belmont figures.

Rags got a 1 1/2 for her Las Virgenes, a 1 for the Oaks and a -1 1/2 for the Belmont.

Ok, just wondering how much improvement there is to be had. She has moved up so much as it is. Guess we'll find out next month.

So far there have been horses that move up to listed stake races beating her. Rebecca Maker should take Green Door to a listed stake race next start just from Sumwon's PP alone

She really hasn't moved up at all. She is finally in capable hands and that is why she is starting to show talent. She recieved a fresh start and quite honestly, I consider her 10 to be where she was actually a racehorse. Fact is that she has some speed, any horse that can do 136.2 maybe her raw time was 136.3, she is going to win some races.

I will tell you this. If Chuck has this horse as a two year old, she would have ran that 10 out of the box.

What I would like to know is how she even got into Pinzon's hands? Anyone know how many sales she went through?

Totally agree and oddly enough am interested in her prior background also - had asked a couple weeks ago and was confirmed in another thread that she probably was not even in a barn this time last year - but when and where did she start training, was at it at TTC or elsewhere??? Guess if Sumwon were Mr. Ed she could tell us personally lol, but in any event a good summer mystery to keep us entertained until she hits New York!

I'll know when she is entered at Toga, I can get a lifetime activity log from Youbet (TurfDay). It will have every time she had a clocked work on it

I imagine she was first sold as a yearling. Could go through sale results from her yearling year to look for her, I suppose.

Default Roots, the equine version

Well, Sumwon never went through a Fasig-Tipton or Keeneland (well, I had to check, anyway ) sale, other than the time Chuck purchased her from R & G Stables LLC this year.

Her dam, Mysterious Moll, was at Classic Star LLC in KY. Moll was sold in the Classic Star dispersal at the November Selected Mixed Sale at Fasig-Tipton KY November 5, 2006, for $67,000 to Jack Werk, agent.

As Sumwon is listed as bred by Classic Star, I imagine then that she was sold privately off the farm here in KY. I doubt she was pinhooked, but you never know. Who knows where she was broken and trained before coming to R & G, who raced her.

The best thing might be that, if somebody here knows Pinzon at Turfway, to simply ask

SUMWON'S BACKGROUND

I can get this information from Pat Hammond of Pont Street Stables in NY. The Pont St. crew owned and campaigned Molly as I've said, and they followed her closely after they sold her in foal for $230,000 in a mixed sale. She red-bagged that foal (MRLS) which I believe was by Silver Deputy.

I invited the Pont Streeters in to Dee Tee and only my friend, Animal Planet celebrity vet Dr. John Charos came aboard. I saw Moll run several times as I became friendly with the Stable, including an inadvertant stop at Laurel the day she won the Martha Washington in a gallop. Spent a fair amount of time near her at the Del Carroll shed as well, and while Sumwonlovesyou has many of her physical characteristics, she is nothing like her high strung dam.

'MOLLY'S' CAREER

Mysterious Moll, the 1998 Florida-bred of the Year, was an edgy, nervous horse as a runner and trainee. Pat Hammond had a pre-race routine with her that included placing wet diapers on top her shoulders and hind end to soothe and calm her. As I recall, Del has said she she was a bitch to train. Jose Espinoza rode her most, though he forgot his work papers the day of the Martha Washington and the MJC wouldn't let him ride so Rick Wilson picked up the mount. Carroll reminded me Belmont Week when I updated him on Sumwon's progress that Molly took to the grass when they came to Saratoga after he breezed her on it as a bit of a lark at at the Oklahoma.

THE TG NUMBER AND WHAT MAY LIE AHEAD

The Thoro-Graph figure SWLY received for last Wednesday's run is outstanding news. As a slight new top off the 45 day break and on the Poly, it gives an indication that Sumwon has another forward move in her yet to come, as she was not at an absolute fitness peak for the effort. Chuck estimates that she was likely about 80-85% fit for Wednesday. Given her pattern off the KEE-CD-CD string of starts, there is reason to believe she may deliver top efforts in her next start or two. After that, Chuck has indicated that he would like to give her a 75-90 day break for the late fall before starting again at Fair Grounds with a winter campaign to begin her 4yo year.

COULD WE HAVE BEEN MORE FORTUNATE?

Our luck landing Sumwonlovesyou as the first Dee Tee acquisition is frankly beyond belief. As has been said repeatedly, it is marker of Chuck's savvy as a bloodstock evaluator and horseman. And as I've also discussed, my own pleasure and satisfaction of being involved with a daughter of Mysterious Moll is extensive. My interest in the game was galvinized by being around the Pont St. gang and Del Carroll at that time, so having any role in this particular horse's racing career is especially serendipitous...

Seeing how much fun everyone is having being a part of Sumwon is exactly what Chuck and I were hoping for with the formation of Dee Tee. While it could 'go south' at the drop of a hat, I'd like to think that all following her exploits have already received more excitement and experience than anticipated. I certainly have..

Steve,

Thanks for the outstanding post.

$500 for what has already been an outstanding experience has been a bargin of a life time and, yes, we have gotten way more than expected.

When you add Sumwon, the new friends, and getting to know you all together, it's been quite an adventure for us and quite an accomplishment for you and Chuck.

I'm really getting tired of thanking you but it is so well diserved.

PS: Late on your show someone was asking about Saratoga motels. I usually stay at the Community Court next to Holiday Inn, it's easy if not beautiful to walk to the track, clean and about $165 a night.
