I haven't looked yet but off the top of my head I'd imagine it's because he or she no longer fits in the conditions of the race. About a week or so ago I saw the same thing at Belmont with a Leo O'brien trained horse who was 99-1 ML because he had broken his maiden a few days earlier and was entered in a maiden race.

I saw that too (obviously he was scratched.)
He won at like 30-1 and I had him in the P3 (which I promptly lost in the last leg.)
