As I pointed out above, Saratoga was huge, but Trenton was the most important battle ever fought. A loss at Trenton would have ended the war. The American success at Saratoga was largely the result of the arrogance of the British, primarily of General Burgoyne. Credit must be given though to Horatio Gates and Benedict Arnold, especially Arnold, later the traitor.
