I am FINALLY excited over the Derby and Curlin came thru as hoped for.

He was immensely smooth at the break, getting position and keeping to his track. What a beautiful finish.

Brianwspencer should be a happy camper... his boy Storm in May should make the derby.

He ran a decent race trying to close against the slow pace, Cajun. Came very wide around the turn and finished 1 length behind the 2nd place horse. (and a nose in front of the 5th place horse!). He's pretty clearly not at the level of top group this year, though.

Didn't trip anyone, was only 55 lengths back.

He made a nice move around the turn and I thought he might actually move into contention but Curlin was just too good.

But I agree with you completely, once Curlin ran off I thought he would be beaten for the Place spot. Gotta love that he's tough to pass in the stretch.

i saw that they wanted to enter him in the bluegrass stakes, and keeneland refused. so to oaklawn they went.
supposedly have a first time starter nominated for the ky oaks. yippee. a fool and his money...
