it wasn't a bad spot. if cobalt was what they said he was, he should have won.

There are really no excuses right now. He had a good trip, he was in perfect position, and he had nothing. And there is also no way I am throwing this horse away. No derby. But we will see what happens later in the year.

i wouldn't use him in the derby IF he shows. but it would depend on where he lands as to whether i would go with him--i didn't go with him yesterday, even tho weeks ago i put him in my road to the roses stable. a derby pretender.

it's difficult tho-a lot of people see a horse in their program who ran in a spring classic, and automatically think it means they're better then anyone else in the field. and that is certainly far from true. no telling what he'll turn out to be like.

also, i see where people say the derby trail 'ruins' horses--i disagree. i think many of these horses show flashes of talent, of brilliance, and they are put in over their head in the drive to make the derby. they just don't belong, show they don't, and people take that to mean they're ruined. no, they just aren't THAT good and show it.

what can i say im absolutely heartbroken but i cant disregard him becuase of a SINGLE bad race and he lost to a runaway loser who had absolutely everything his own way with that slow pace upfront. to most people racing is a game of what have you done for me lately but again i cant simply rule him out off one bad effort. he was here for a week in advance and in chris blocks barn from what i heard here but still it was the horses first time shipping and running on a surface thats been bias and goofy all meet, the track was altered friday morning before the races as well
