Sam!! I like this horse as well... I saw him win on closing day at CD this past November. He just seems like a scrappy, versatile horse. One of those types that if he can't win it you can at least put him underneath. But, I do think the way he is progressing he might peak in a little over a month, get a good trip and be a derby winner.

With the way he runs, I love that he's going to the Illinois Derby too.

He seems to be one of those horse who just can't quite seem to get the job done, but grinds and grinds, a style that can be effective in the Derby.

Hmmmm, grinds. Can't get the job done in preps. Still will get enough earnings to get in.

Giacomo Redux?!

Default I still find it hard to narrow, but......

1. Street Sense
2. Circular Quay
3. Great Hunter
4. Nobiz Like Shobiz
5. Notional
Sleepers in no particular order
Zanjero, Hard Spun, Adore The Gold, Any Given Saturday, Rags to Riches
Extremely hard to narrow down, i could throw 10 more in there easy! More preps to come, jockey decisions, of course the possibility of injuries (hope not), lots of intrigue still to play itself out in the next 6 weeks! Love this time of year!

Only two horses have a chance to win the Derby. The exacta will be Notional and Circular Quay. Haven't decided the order but they are sure to be 1-2. It's as much a lock as Smarty and Lion Heart were going in in 2004. The sleepers are Curlin, Rags to Riches, and Scat Daddy. No others matter.

The Tampa Derby was a nice race. But I predict that it was so hard on those two that one or both will be out of the Derby. I believe one will be knocked out before the Derby and the other will be done for the year before the summer is over. Neither of these two horses finishes the summer.

Hey KG, given how VERY right you've been before, I'll mark your words on CQ and Notional. With SJ, however, it was easy for even the idiots among us to see the talent from waaaaaay before the Rebel (although mind you, some TRUE idiots continued to insist he couldn't stay until he was in the gate at CD). With CQ, on the other hand, I've watched the LA Derby and I still couldn't get excited about him, 102 Beyer aside...

That said, I'll heed your opinion on these two...

This makes so little sense that I don't really know why I am even responding to it but.....WTF? I have both of these horses in my top 5, but this kind of prediction makes absolutely no sense at all. I like CQ, but he will no doubt be running 20th down the backstretch so I wouldn't exactly call it a sure thing that he avoids all the traffic and gets in the exacta. What if these two draw posts 1 and 20. Might that have an effect?
What if Ravel or Great Hunter look extremely impressive in their next start? This is meaningless?
Etc. etc. etc.

1) Street Sense
2) Scat Daddy
3) Great Hunter
4) Curlin
5) Any Given Saturday

Super sleeper- Grapelli... With a full field and a hot pace, this guy could make a run for it..Although his entrance into the derby seems unlikely due to graded earnings, I really believe this horse has a big upside.

By tomorrow at 6pm. ArlJim will have 42 combinations worked out with his top five.

I should be so wise to start early.

I agree. Loved Bella Belluci and remember Drysdale scratching her day of Alabama as I loved her in that spot. being a Thunder Gulch distance not an issue and I feel if he devlops, Grapelli could be a sleeper to hit the board and be a factor down the road of his 3 YO season. Saturdays race he had no shot in with pace scenario and short field. Give him some pace and a little maturity and he could be a factor
