that's why partnerships are good, if you find the right one. that way, those of us who aren't wealthy can join in the hobby. thing is, none of my other hobbies are money makers either....

Owning 1/20th of a horse is fun? Maybe 150-200 a month, plus the buy in is in your budget for this Fun.
Linda Rice has a barn full of these types, but I only play her horses on the turf, at 5-1/2 furlongs

ok, so don't join the partnership. i intend to get more deeply into ownership in a couple years. appreciate your 'kind words'.

Yea, go easy. It's a great sport, and it takes allot of money to stay in it. Have as much fun with it as possible.

best of luck with your horses

You just joined this place and you are knocking this partnership? To what end?

If you aren't interested then don't join.

Default Partnership = good idea

I'd gladly give a few hundred to 1) make some contacts/friends in the game 2) have a vested interest other than a wager 3) support the game and 4) maybe, just maybe, win an allowance without losing the farm.

MisterB, you're kind of picking a bone with most people on this board because a lot of us have aspirations of ownership in the future but we're not financially capable of taking that leap yet. A partnership (especially under the closed end arrangement we have with Chuck) is an excellent opportunity for folks like us to participate in ownership and learn more than we otherwise could.

I think you take for granted the "burnout" that most first-time owners have when getting into the game because they deplete their resources before they know enough to even be "good" at it. So, based on this, why doesn't it make sense to throw a few hundred at a partnership rather than tens of thousands going out on your own to start???

It makes perfect sence for those who do not have the funds to be a full time owner. Heck, they even give you a owners permit. What kind of horse are you trying to buy? Like I said, Chuck is a great trainer, but this isn't about the trainer, it's about owning a piece of the pie. Many good trianers are in this game of partnering. It's the new wave, just look around, West Point is a good example too.

lol. What's your point?

People's ideas of fun are different than yours perhaps.

Personally, scouring the entries looking for a L Rice runner going 5.5 f on the grass is not my idea of a good time. But knock your socks off! And good luck!

You're missing the point....which is " to each his ( or her ) own ".

There are many discussions going on in this place, why you have chosen this one to lift your leg upon is baffling, unless of course you are just trolling.

I can't believe you would be doing that....and on your first day posting no less!

Did I say something wrong, by voicing my opinion, and also some facts? I choose this one because it's stuck on top, and I thought it was ok to talk about it. Since you made it clear, don't talk on this thread, I won't anymore.

Baloney.

Don't raise your hands as if to say " poor me ". You know exactly what you are doing. If you know enough around here to know who I am then you also know EXACTLY what you are doing here.

You seem to be off to a bit of a rough start around here...if you think that the DT partnership is a bad idea you are free to have that opinion...but is it really necessary to belabor the point?
it isn't really very polite to show up and sh*t on your host's carpet the first day he lets you into his house.

Default Incentive?

Is she incentivized by half the purses?? I mean, that would make ME want to win a little more than 10% would.
