I often wonder why the sport has interested me so much.
I often wonder why more people aren't interested...racing takes my breath away. Beauty, pagentry, history, excitement...

I once read a proposal for a book that someone was writing on another forum on Timely Writer and it was so interesting. I wasn't able to find much online, but I did find this, most of which is more of a history of Suffolk Downs. Some really interesting old photographs too.

I saw all his 2YO races at Saratoga. Unfortunately I went to college shortly after and didn't see a lot more of his races as that was a brief time I didn't follow racing extremely closely.

I do remember when he sadly broke down.

Was he good? I read his race record, but even Tapit has the Wood Memorial on his.

He was very good but I don't have the perspective for him that I do for most so I really can't say.

Thanks for answering though. Unfortunately any youtube or google search didn't turn up much either.

Last year, NYRA ran some old Marlboro Cup races. That race was just before the Jockey Club Gold Cup. Timely Writer was in that Marlboro Cup and was no factor, don't no if that was a prelude for what happened to him when he brokedown. He was quite a horse at Gulfstream early in his three year old campaign, then got hurt before the Triple Crown races. The DRF book "Champions" has his PP's in it. That is a great book to own!
