Considering the disasterous condition of the state's economy, they have to stay ahead of their neighbors to keep the bus loads of cash coming in. I don't have the exact figures, but you would be amazed at what percentage the revenue from slots, dogs, and horses represents in the overall picture of the state's total income. Scary, really.

Charles Town when taken into consideration is the best area that would serve the gambling public because of its distance from Baltimore and Washington D.C. and VA, I would take a wild guess and say more then 60% of WV gambling proceeds are from out of state visitors which makes both MD and VA idiots for letting all those dollars out of state.

Mountaineers gaming floor is like a geriactic clinic. I put the average age at 60 on the floor.

God it would be nice if they had a pokerroom, or expanded that crappy little horsebook, maybe had a players room. All of tht would be nice

That specific dog track is my all-time favorite for off-track betting.

They have always had many touch-screen video replay machines....and they have many other useful things available to the bettors.

The places in Pennsylvania are much cleaner and the food is better at some of them---however, they don't have all of the tools every competently run off-track betting facility should have.

Isn't Charles Town in Charles Town, WV? Charles Town is the place where John Brown was tried back in the 1850's.

Anywho, I think Penn National made something like $400 million in revenue from slots at Charles Town in the last quarter of 2005. I can't even begin to imagine what the take would be from table games.

Having been to Charles Town dozens of times, I can tell you it's a stone's throw away from the city hall where John Brown was tried and hanged. I'd say it's called "Charles Town" and not "Ransomn for a reason. There are some interesting things in Ranson though.
