The effect of the smoke from the Quebec fires has had quite an effect on much of the Northeast. The Yankee-White Sox game at Yankee Stadium last night was postponed - they will try to play a doubleheader this afternoon. The Stadium had a very eerie, hazy look to it both Tuesday evening (when they did play) and yesterday evening.
The forecast for air quality over the next several days suggests improvement, but it is improvement from a very dangerous air quality. Both Finger Lakes and Delaware Park cancelled racing yesterday, and I think that Delaware has also cancelled today. Curiously, Parx ran yesterday afternoon even though the Phillies cancelled their game last night.
As to Belmont, you mentioned that training was cancelled for this morning. The racing for this afternoon wasn't scheduled to begin until 3:05. I think that they were going to assess the air quality sometime late this morning and make a go/no decision for today.
