That snow and ice that is affecting Arkansas seems to be a very widespread storm, having an impact on much of the Eastern part of the US. We will probably be getting some of the wintery mix by tomorrow afternoon. I think that Brisnet is based in Kentucky, and that area is also getting hit by this storm. That might be slowing lots of things down. In the meantime, hope that you stay snug and warm. This too shall pass.

As a baseball fan, this is the time of year when I try to help winter pass by counting down the number of days until "pitchers and catchers report." Alas, due to the MLB lockout I can't even do that.

We have a "snowy, icy mess" here in north Texas as described by one of our local weather guys. No need to go out, got groceries two days ago and catching up on laundry and folding clothes is enough to force me into several nap times today. Lows in the teens and single digit wind chills are not good for dog walking, which is still must do several times a day. As Joe Friday used to say "it's a glamourless, thankless job but it's gotta be done". At least we don't have power outages like we had last year for several days in early Feb. Bring on sunny south Florida, at least in my mind

Yep, the power outages are the big thing. Snow we can deal with, but ice something else. Seems like we get one of those big ice storms about every 10 years or so. People go into complete panic mode. You would think we were in the middle of Montana. If you are late going to the grocery store, the shelves will be bare of things like milk, eggs, bread, etc. It can be a big inconvenience especially in homes like mine which are all electric. Pretty much have to bail out of your home, if the power is lost for even a few days. I finally invested in a generator so not so easily driven out these days. Don't even try to drive on frozen roadways. People speed crazy and don't adjust their driving habits so there are many crashes or cars sliding off the road. Sort of like a demolition derby to even try. Better to hole up in your domicile, if you can.

Agree Cal, people who were born and grew up south of the mason-dixon line are not good handling snow, sleet or ice. My wife and I grew up in upstate NY so we still have vivid memories of long, brutal winters and snow accumulations of 3-4 ft. The cities, counties and states are prepared for up there but not so much down here since it happens rarely. And the crazy Texans and southerners go out and do exactly what you're not supposed to do . . . walk to fast on ice and fall, drive to fast, slam on their brakes when driving, get in accidents and so on and so on.

It'll all be gone in a couple of days here, but those same crazy people will still be here and likely do other crazy stuff.
