Any decline is a positive step but still a long way to go. Overall the numbers don't vary enough to show any major changes and they probably shouldn't given the nature of the sport itself. Get that# under 1.00 and that will say something.

but this is interesting.

Once again, the data showed that the fatality rate on artificial surfaces is well below that of turf and dirt, at 0.93 per 1,000 starts. Dirt surfaces had a 1.60 fatality rate in 2019, while turf surfaces had a 1.56 rate.
