In addition to Luck's eloquent observations, Gary West stable manager and bloodstock agent Ben Glass laughingly explains the Maximum Security back story which includes giving away the dam in the November sale for $11,000 (i/f with a full sibling). Glass bought the Anasheed mare for $80,000 while she was carrying Maximum Security. They also sold New Year's Day to a Brazilian stud farm. In other words, they had packed it in on the whole New Year's Day endeavor and were ready to give away Maximum Security too for $16,000.. except nobody wanted him. You can't make it up.
