I’ve watched the derby several times now and I’ve been focusing on Bravazo vs. Lone Sailor. If anyone sees it differently, please correct me — but Lone Sailor got to ride the rail the bulk of the race and Bravazo was out side the bulk of the race, including getting bumped early and possibly having to pull up on the horse to swing outside in the early going.

Despite a clearer path, Lone Sailor still finished a length behind Bravazo. So it seems like Bravazo might actually be a decent bet to pull off an Oxbow-like performance. Maybe he doesn’t win it but he’s almost sure to get an easier trip than what he faced in the Derby.

I’m thinking it may be a necessity to use Bravazo heavily in exotic wagers. His number will be high but his derby performance was better than what the finish indicates.

Moses, I thought that lone sailor had no place to go for much of the race . He had to fight through openings to pass those he passed. I was more impressed with his run.

Thanks. I’ve been back and forth on these two for a week now. I’ll watch it a few more times. It seems to me that Lone Sailor didn’t accelerate well when he finally did have an opening so it’s got me wondering if he had nowhere to go or if he just doesn’t have a strong move in him. My initial thought was that he was blocked in, but like I said, I’ve been back and forth.

There are a lot better betting races this Saturday, all over the US. I will just watch the Preakness.
