Who knows whether the decision was Smith's or Baffert's, but to take a horse who has shown 46 and change speed on numerous occasions to be last through 49 and change is more than criminal. This is why the game is failing here; there's no incentive for this not to happen. You can bet your Xmas bonus that in other jurisdictions the connections would have been immediately called into the stewards room and someone would have been held accountable with a lengthy suspension.
