Dr. Daniel Varga, of the Texas Health Resource, says the worker was in full protective gear when they provided care to Thomas Eric Duncan during his second visit to Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital. Varga did not identify the worker and says the family of the worker has "requested total privacy."

If the preliminary diagnosis is confirmed, it would be the first known case of the disease being contracted or transmitted in the U.S.

Dr. Tom Frieden, head of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, said the diagnosis shows there was a clear breach of safety protocol and all those who treated Thomas Eric Duncan are now considered potentially exposed.

An ominous posting by a facebook friend who just happens to work in the animal sciences research department at U.Mad, in regards to how Ebola is being handled:

To have the expectation that you can contain Ebola, a BSL4 (Biosafety Level aka the Hot Zone) virus in a BSL1, 2, 3 environment is absolutely unobtainable and ridiculous. You cannot.

Now the nurses union is voicing its concerns and the real story of mistakes made at every turn by all and not to blame the victimized nurses who followed the directions of the hospital and the CDC. It's a huge mess with large numbers of staff, patients and contacts exposed . Let's hope that they get this under control.

i'm not worried about it at all and don't get why anyone else is. unless one lives in one of the african countries, or is a medical professional there, i don't see why anyone is concerned.

no, why would i be? the chances for someone in this country getting ebola is incredibly slim-the chance of getting it from someone is 'miniscule'.
i'd be more worried about the flu, or a car accident-both of which hit far more people every day than ebola does. and i don't worry about them either.

you cannot get it from casual contact. i haven't been to africa, neither has my spouse. we aren't in the health care field.
