![]() My wife is busy cleaning out some drawers and comes out of the bedroom handing me a racing form from 1987...WOW. She hands it to me and I realize I am holding the form from the 4th Breeder's Cup. WOW..WOW!!
After spending the next hour looking through it I am amazed. Listened to who ran that one day. Cryptoclearance Ferdinand Afleet Alysheba Gulch Theatrical Trempolino Miesque Groovy High Brite and many, many more. The result of this find is both exhilarating and depressing. Exhilarating because the forms of these horses is really something special. I mean, you just don't see these type of horses anymore. You really don't. Depressing because it clearly shows the decline of the breed. It really has been decimated. I think of this board where we attempt to define one or two or three horses as great. Maybe they are, maybe they are not. But this form from 1987 had many horses several of you would agree were true champions. Also depressing as it shows I'm getting old. The date of the form was the month my son was born who was sitting next to me coming home from college this week. I just hope he's not destined to the same fate of the horse breed.
