McCain spokeswoman Brooke Buchanan said her boss has not shifted his position.
She noted that Mullen said repeatedly that he was speaking for himself and not for the military, and she dismissed Gates's testimony because he was expressing the Obama administration's line.

mullens said he was speaking for himself, but that's the way he feels, and he is a leader of our military. i think mccain is trying to be a bit disingenuous here. typical pol. besides, he did say military leaders and gates most definitely is one-regardless of whose line they think he's spouting.
but i do think the senate is correct in placing a moratorium on discharges while they discuss repealing the law.
