This story gets it pretty much right. Bruno is caught between a rock and a hard place - in his warped world. In order to stop what Spitzer was looking to do (and not admit it is about the slots), Bruno has been forced into bashing NYRA. However, the thoroughbred industry and the Saratoga City leaders are pro-NYRA, so now he's doing things against the wishes of his constituents. The result is that he's been getting huge heat from his constituents, who see him as more a part of the problem than part of the solution on this issue. Bruno now either has to accede to the wishes of his constituents - and let Spitzer "win" this issue, which Bruno is loathe to do. Or he continues to fight Spitzer and support a well-financed donor (Capital Play), at the risk of further alienating his constituents.
