Hips to watch for Keeneland September

Following are horses to watch during Books 1 and 2 of the Keeneland September yearling sale, which comprises the first four sessions. Horses were selected based on their pedigrees and past auction results of notable family members. Conformation, veterinarian records, outs, and pedigree updates after deadline were not taken into consideration.

Book 1

Hip No. 12, dk. b. or br. f., Pioneerof the Nile—General Jeanne, by Honour and Glory, consigned by Hill ‘n’ Dale Sales Agency, agent

General Jeanne is the dam of Grade 2 winners Chace City and Justwhistledixie. The latter’s produce record includes Breeders’ Cup Juvenile winner New Year’s Day and Grade 2 winner Mohaymen.

Hip No. 17, b. f., War Front—Grand Prayer, by Grand Slam, consigned by Gainesway, agent

Grade 1 winner Malibu Prayer and Grade 2 winner Valid are siblings to this filly.

Hip No. 20, b. c., Tapit—Her Smile, by Include, property of KatieRich Farms

The third foal out of Grade 1 winner Her Smile. Her second, the Tapit filly Pink Sands, sold for $625,000 at last year’s Fasig-Tipton Saratoga select yearling sale.

The first foal out of multiple Grade 1 winner Iotapa.

A full brother to Grade 2 winner and $2.2 million yearling Mohaymen, and a half-brother to Breeders’ Cup Juvenile winner New Year’s Day.

The produce record for K. D.’s Shady Lady includes Grade 1 winner Lady of Fifty and stakes winners Lady Fifty Two and Forestry Steel.

Grade 3 winner Keertana’s first foal was Grade 3 winner Ticonderoga, who sold as a yearling for $850,000.

Stakes winner Bellavais is a half-sister to this filly. Her second dam is Grade 1 winner Memories of Silver.

The first foal out of Grade 1 winner Let Faith Arise, from the family of Moonshine Mullin.

Irish Group 1 winner Caravaggio is a full brother to this filly, and Grade 2 winner My Jen is a half-sister.

Oatsee, the 2011 Broodmare of the Year, has produced Preakness Stakes winner Shackleford, Grade 1 winner Lady Joanne, and Grade 2 winner Afleeting Lady, among others.

Grade 2 winner Promenade Girl’s four winners from as many runners includes Grade 1 winner Cavorting and Grade 2-placed Thirstforlife.

Quarter Moon, an Irish Group 1 winner, has had Group 1 winner Diamondsandrubies, Group 1-placed You’ll Be Mine, and Group 3 winner Born to Be King.

Hip No. 77, dk. b., or br. f., Giant’s Causeway—Rebridled Dreams, by Unbridled’s Song, consigned by Beau Lane Bloodstock, agent

The seven winners out of Rebridled Dreams include Grade 1 winners Carpe Diem and J. B.’s Thunder, Grade 2 winner Farrell, stakes winner Doncaster Rover, and Grade 2-placed Semper Fortis.

Grade 1 winners Hoppertunity and Executiveprivilege are half-siblings to this colt.

All four of Canadian Horse of the Year Sealy Hill’s foals to race are winners, including Canadian champion sprinter Hillaby and Grade 3 winners Belle Hill and Gale Force.

A half-brother to champion and Kentucky Derby winner Nyquist.

Hip No. 86, dk. b. or br. c., Tapit—Serena’s Cat, by Storm Cat, consigned by Baccari Bloodstock, agent

Champion Honor Code, Grade 2 winner Noble Tune, and stakes-placed Lady Serena are half-siblings to this colt, who sold as a weanling for $1.05 million.

Hip No. 95, b. f., Frankel—Stormy Sunday, by Sir Cat, consigned by Gainesway, agent for Kendall E. Hansen, MD Racing

The sale’s lone offering by Frankel is a half-sister to champion Hansen. She was a $725,000 RNA as a weanling.

Hip No. 101, b. c., War Front—Take Charge Lady, by Dehere, consigned by Eaton Sales, agent

Out of 2013 Broodmare of the Year Take Charge Lady, this colt is a half to champion Will Take Charge, Grade 1 winner Take Charge Indy, and the dam of champion Take Charge Brandi.

One of just four foals from the late Smart Strike’s final crop. His third dam is 2007 Broodmare of the Year Better Than Honour.

Irish Group 1-placed Courage Under Fire is a full brother to this colt, and champion Take Charge Brandi is a half-sister. His second dam is Broodmare of the Year Take Charge Lady.
