Finding vouchers at track

This happened to me once at Saratoga, but I was on the other end. I left a voucher in the machine, noticed it about 2 minutes later, went back to the machine and notified a teller who then contacted the mutuel room. They told me someone had placed a $20 bet off the voucher, but returned the remainder of the voucher to me, while cancelling the original voucher. Hopefully, this is what was meant by "funds had been used", the original voucher had been cancelled and restored to another. Hopefully.
