Hard Spun was clearly the better runner, but the dam's family of War Front was much stronger.
I thought that entire crop Hard Spun was in was overrated (though I did like Tiz Wonderful), especially as stallion prospects. There was some talk or belief back then that Turkoman was this fabulous sire of broodmares....
But yeah, I think War Front took everyone except for RHT by surprise.
