Correct - was the 5/2 favorite in the KY Derby less than 2 months after his debut.

That's amazing. I was in College then and barely remember him but seeing Frank Labocetta's name gave it away.

Another old one.
Not that much as a racehorse - but was a champion sire on multiple occasions and sired two of the better KY Derby winners ever. Name him. |

I'm impressed.
On a side note, kind of cool seeing Crafty Khale in his running lines. I remember him from when I first started going to the track.

I did some sireline research for the derby a few years ago and there were only a handful of duel derby sires, Halo being one. Sunday Silence was one son but can't remember the other.

Though DrugS calling him one of the best two Derby winners ever is insane. I guess he must have mistakenly thought Devil's Bag won the Derby.

Sunny's Halo's form going into the KY Derby:
![]() There was also a PA Bred sired by Halo in that years KY Derby who just missed against Slew O' Gold in a division of the Wood Memorial. ![]() That looked like a halfway decent enough Derby field. Besides the two Halo horses and Slew O' Gold - three solid horses in Play Fellow, Marfa, Desert Wine exited the Blue Grass. Caveat - the eventual Belmont winner was a well beaten 2nd to Sunny's Halo in the Ark Derby. Highland Park looks decent on paper. Explosive Wagon won 18 of 35. Sunny's Halo won the Ark Derby with a 3.75 Ragozin and the KY Derby with a 4 Rag. Not shabby. If enough Giacomo's, Mine That Bird's and Super Saver's keep coming he might become one of the better Derby winners. |

He was the entrymate of the Preakness winner. Had he not run Deputed Testamony would have been the longest price in Preakness history. |

One for the old-timers....
This horse won the Florida Derby from 20 lengths back at Gulfstream - and won the Blue Grass Stakes at old speed friendly Keeneland by 4 lengths after trailing by 15 early on. ![]() Name him. |
