Default Randy Moss Watch

Here is what Moss needs to have this year to tie Jerry Rice's insane stats through 13 seasons.

* Receptions: 123 (NFL record: Marvin Harrison 143 in 2002)

* Yards: 1,990 (NFL record: Jerry Rice 1,848 in 1995)

* TD catches: 7 (NFL record: Randy Moss 23 in 2007)

Despite having seven different mega overrated starting qbs in Minny and wasting two years in Oakland and having spaghetti arm Matt Cassell for a year in NE - and supposedly taking all kinds of plays off and quitting all the time ... this is the year that Moss runs down Rice.

My prediction on Moss's 2010 season:

124 catches
1,991 yards
24 TD's
Pats record: 19-0
Moss will have now played on the three highest scoring offenses of all-time.
Biggest contract ever given to an old wide receiver in the off-season.
Moss has Rice edged in catches and yards - and crushed in TD's going into year 14.

PG'85 ... please don't dream this and undermine my prediction.

Does anyone (that actually follows the sport and doesn't just look at box scores) think Moss will ever be considered a better player than Rice?

Probably just Joe Montana and Steve Young - but they won't admit it.

In College:

Moss: (played 2 years)

'96 Marshall 1AA: 78 receptions for 1,709 yards and 28 touchdowns. Also led the nation in kick return yardage and averaged 34 yards per kick return.

'97 Marshall 1A: 96 receptions for 1820 yards, and 26 touchdowns. Won the Belitnikoff award as the nations leading receiver. Heisman trophy finalist as a sophomore.

Rice: (played 4 years - all at 1AA level)

He finished his career with 301 catches for 4,693 yards and 50 touchdowns (some sources have the numbers as 310, 4,856 and 51)

Yep - Moss had way more TD catches in 2 seasons playing in a balanced offense than Rice had in 4 seasons playing in a pass happy offense that also set scoring records.

Two greatest receivers ever. One just happens to be 6'5" with 4.2 speed and uncommon leaping ability, body control, wing span, and strength for body type. The other guy is a mere mortal named Jerry Rice.

A lot more explosive and all the records will soon be his. I thought Moss was the GOAT since his Minnesota days, nothing to do with a Pats bias. He is the single most talented player the NFL has ever seen.

Part of the reason why Rice's records are never going to be touched is because of how long he played and how long he was able to maintain a really high level of greatness. I never thought anyone would come along that I thought was better but for my money, I'd take Randy Moss. That he's able to even approach some of those numbers with the guys he played with is amazing. I have a hard time knocking Rice down to #2 so I'd probably list them as #1 and #1a with Moss on top.
